The 2011 legislative session resulted significant changes in the laws related to spousal maintenance, economic fraud and mistaken paternity.
Spousal Maintenance:
The new law makes spousal maintenance or support available to a wide group, lengthens the duration and increases the amount of monthly support from $2,500 to $5,000, or 20 percent of gross earnings, whichever is less. This support is intended to provide for the spouse’s “minimum reasonable needs” which will be determined by the court on a case-by-case basis.
